The new Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf Teaching Hospital is a state-of-the-art hospital facility in Najaf, Iraq's holy city located about 160 km from the capital Baghdad. Inaugurated in July 2024, the hospital complex was built by a German company between 2009 and 2014. The Al-Najaf teaching hospital has been redeveloped through a partnership between the Iraqi government and GSD/GKSD, which has transformed it into a technologically advanced facility offering quality care and treatment to the people of Iraq.
Under this new management, the hospital has benefitted greatly from the know-how and expertise of doctors, technicians and administrators from Gruppo San Donato and GKSD Investment Holding, who provide clinical and technological training for the hospital's employees and collaborators.
With its 492 beds, 16 operating theatres, 44 intensive care beds and about 3,000 medical and administrative staff: the new Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf Teaching Hospital marks a new start for Iraq in the health sector, offering services of excellence in both the clinical and surgical areas and for all the most important branches of medicine (cardiology, internal medicine, oncology, orthopaedics and traumatology, paediatrics and gynaecology).
A unique project that marks a new story in the history of GSD healthcare, demonstrating how healthcare and the humanisation of care can break down barriers, create value and build bridges between nations.
